Court Record Types in Pittsburg County

The Pittsburg County District Court maintains several categories of case records. Criminal felony cases use the CF prefix. Misdemeanors use CM. Civil cases over $10,000 use CJ, and those under that amount use CS. Family law cases, which cover divorce and custody, fall under the FD prefix. Probate uses PB. Small claims are SC. Traffic tickets use TR. Each type has its own filing fee and process, but all records are stored and managed by the same court clerk office in McAlester.

Not all records are public. Juvenile court files are sealed under Oklahoma law. Adoption records need a court order to view. Mental health commitment records are confidential. Under Title 22, Section 18 of the Oklahoma Statutes, certain records can also be sealed through expungement if the person meets the legal requirements. If you are unsure whether a record is public, call the clerk's office before making the trip.

Note: Pittsburg County court records date back to 1890, with no known record losses from courthouse fires or disasters.

Criminal Court Records in Pittsburg County

Criminal case records in Pittsburg County are available through OSCN and at the clerk's office. Felony cases (CF prefix) and misdemeanor cases (CM prefix) are both searchable. The docket will show charges, court dates, plea entries, and sentencing details. Some documents, like arrest warrants or affidavits, may be scanned and available as PDFs on the OSCN system.

For a broader criminal history check, the OSBI CHIRP portal is the statewide tool. A name-based search costs $15 and covers all Oklahoma counties. Under Oklahoma Administrative Code Section 375:9-1-2, all online criminal history requests go through CHIRP. This is separate from the court records search on OSCN, which only shows cases filed in the court system. CHIRP can show arrest data that may not have resulted in a formal court case. For Pittsburg County court records specifically, though, OSCN or a visit to the clerk's office are the best options.
